Can you tell us more about Madeleine Lindley Ltd?

 

Over 30 years ago, Madeleine Lindley began selling children’s books to schools in and around Greater Manchester from her home in Chadderton, after a decade of struggling to find the best quality books in her role as a primary school teacher specialising in literacy.

The team at Madeleine Lindley Ltd have continued to develop a love of reading in Primary School nationwide by providing teachers with wonderful books. Our booksellers are incredibly knowledgeable and well-respected, and thousands of teachers trust our recommendations from the vast number of children’s books published each year.

 


What does a typical workday look like for you, and what is the most rewarding part of your job? 

 

Every day can be different depending on our diary of events, we host authors at the Book Centre or in schools, run teacher training days in our Conference room, visit schools to help organise and audit libraries, make decisions on new books we want to stock as well as preparing book selections for delivery to schools.


 

 

Do you have any recommendations for books created by Northern authors and illustrators? 

 

We love so many it’s hard to choose. We have worked closely with following authors this year and loved every minute of it: Frank Cottrell Boyce, Jarvis, Corrinne Averiss, Matt Goodfellow, Bethan Woolvin, Lydia Monks and many more.

 


 

How do you feel this initiative impacts schools in the North of England? 

 

Working more closely with a publishing team in the north benefits not only us as the Bookseller but schools and authors too. 


 

What is for you the spirit of the North, and do you feel it's represented by Madeleine Lindley Ltd? 

 

Our friendly service along with our hospitable nature welcomes teachers to our Book Centre on a daily basis. This combined with our hard-working attitude you can always ensure our school receive the best service with a friendly smile.


 


What would you like to see from the creative industries in the North of England?   

 

We would love to be involved in more events in the north including festivals and author exclusives.


 

 

What does the future of Madeleine Lindley Ltd look like, any projects in the works? 

 

Madeleine Lindley Ltd continues to work with our schools along with the very evolving world of children’s publishing and would love the two to work closer together now that we have CNB in place. Our annual events continue to grow, and our training days and school events are enhanced even more by children’s authors attending.

NORTHERN HIGHLIGHTS Jenny Bloomfield    Where do you live, and how would you sum up the place in three words?   Leeds - Urban, Dales, Evolving   What is special to you about creating children's books, and what is your favourite part of the process?  Children's books are mini-works of art and a favourite book will be looked at hundreds and hundreds of times - not many books get this much attention from their audience! I am always drawing (I've drawn every day since 1st September 2014 - you can see every single day on my instagram @Jennybloomfield ) so I love being able to transfer my sketchbook observations and ideas to a living breathing story.
